Will You Know My Name, If I See You In Heaven

My little friend Buster had a massive stroke yesterday and went completely blind. I rushed him to the veterinarian when I realized something was wrong. The vet told me nothing could be done and that he could either die in the next few days or possibly recover in a few weeks. We were not so lucky.

I was holding him in my arms after I got home from work yesterday and he turned his head toward me, took one last breath and died in my arms.

The poor little guy was a dog I got from a Yorkie rescue down here. He was a puppy mill dog with multiple genetic defects. I got him when he was 1 year old. He was 4 years old when he passed away last night.

Please people, when you decide you want a pet of any kind, go to a rescue or to a reputable breeder. Let's stop supporting all these shitty corporate pet shops and these little mom and pop pet shops that buy their animals from puppy mills and other disreputable breeders that only care about the almighty dollar and could care less about the animals they harm.

My dogs are like my children to me and I am truly heart broken right now. If you believe in a higher power, please say a short prayer for my little buddy's soul.

Rest in peace Buster. Daddy loves you and misses you very much.

I'm sure you Buddy had all the love a life time can hold in his four short years.
My heart goes out to you (((Joe))).

I don't think anybody in my immediate family has bought a pet in years. We've taken in strays, mostly. There are a lot to choose from, and you can usually find a recently-dumped one that still has a good attitude.

Joe, I'm so sorry about your dog. I'm sure he's up there runnin' the fields of heaven and making God and Bane laugh. *hugs*

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our Shannon last year, feb.11 to be exact, and it nearly killed me. She was a wedding gift from my parents, She was only 11. She died of complications from Gall Bladder cancer, she went into shock and we ended up having to put her down. I still miss her, we have a new puppy and our other older one, but no puppy can replace my Shannon. Think fondly of your memories with your buddy, I know that does bring me comfort. I agree, go to a rescue, no matter what breed you want, there are rescues! My new puppy is a golden retriever from a rescue golden, and she is a wonderful pup! Thinking of you!

You were there for him. That's all any of us can do, and means so much to a dog.

Just lost one of the best dogs I've ever owned... Had to put him to sleep. He was 14 years old and was a true member of the family. You are right when you say your dogs are like your children... It is going to be some time before I'm able to think of Ralph without tearing up. Damn, but he was a good old pup!
